A nagging doubt: Is there a clash of interest in the HSBC Board Reshuffle?

  • Former Bank of England deputy governor Rachel Lomax will reportedly become the senior independent director  at HSBC according to news on the internet.

  • But can a previous regulator be an independent director of the regulated institution? is that in public interests?

  • Should not the regulator and monetary authority be above any embarrassment at a future date?

  • A deputy Governor may have taken decisions affecting the management of the bank at some time the Deputy Governor's career. Is it fair to the system. Ethically, should there be a code of conduct?
